Drop Biscuits from Scratch

This morning I happened to be in the baking mood and so I decided to make an old breakfast favorite of my kids, biscuits and gravy. Of course it is easier to make them from a packaged mix like Bisquick or the refrigerated dough tubes, but homemade almost always tastes better. This time was no exception. These biscuits were absolutely delicious! Try them for yourselves and taste the difference!

Clint’s Drop Biscuits

Ingredients

3 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour

3 tsp baking powder

1 Tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp cream of tartar

3/4 cup of unsalted butter (1 1/2 sticks)

1 cup of milk

Directions: 1) Mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and salt of tartar together in a bowl. 2) Use a pastry blender or a knife to cut the butter into the mixture until it is well incorporated into pea-sized lumps. 3) Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour the milk into it. Stir the milk while slowly adding more of the mixture until a dough ball forms. Do not knead the dough. 4) Scoop the dough onto a lightly greased cookie sheet (the dough should be enough to make 10). Bake at 425 degrees F for about 12 minutes and enjoy!
