“My mother’s cooking was heavily influenced by her Italian heritage. As a child I was always fascinated with her ability to cook several items and always have them ready simultaneously. Her meals spoiled me to a degree that I thought no cooking could compare. When I was off to college, I began cooking for survival: low-cost, minimal prep time dishes. In my desperation to find something close to the home-cooking that pleasantly haunted my memory, I began to inquire about recipes. I got many of my old favorites from my mother, some came from grandparents, and still more came from friends’ self-proclaimed successes. As I got better at cooking, I found my enjoyment growing and my tastes becoming more complex.”
